Brinker Elementary FAQs

What are the school hours?

Doors open at 7:00 am. Students arriving at this time should go to the gym or the cafeteria for breakfast. At 7:30, front doors open and students may go to their classrooms. Instruction begins at 7:40. School ends at 3:00. The front office is open from 7:15-3:30. A child is considered late if they are NOT in the building by 7:40am. If your child is tardy, please accompany them into the front office to sign them in. 

 

What if my child leaves an item (lunch, backpack, etc.) at home?

There are baskets in the foyer labeled by grade level. Items can be left in these baskets (labeled with the sticky notes provided), and grade levels will check the baskets throughout the day. No fountain drinks please to avoid spills. 

 

What is the cost for lunch and breakfast?

Breakfast meal price $1.75. Lunch meal price $2.85 for the 24-25 school year. A la carte items will be available for purchase. Adults must purchase their own meal. Students are encouraged to bring a healthy (nut free) snack everyday and a refillable water bottle.

 

What if I need to pick my child up early? Or change his/her “going home” procedure?

If your child needs to leave early, please plan to pick up before 2:30 pm. After this time, students are busy packing up and transitioning to carpool/daycare/bus. If you need to change your child’s “going home” procedure, please contact your teacher and the front office before 1:00 pm.

 

What programs are available at Brinker?

PE, Music, and Art are provided for all students. Children meet with a school counselor for guidance lessons every other week. Our Library is open daily for book check-out and  is scheduled on a regular basis. PTA may offer after-school enrichment programs as well. Other academic programs include ESL, Dyslexia therapy, special education and PACE (gifted & talented).

 

How is academic progress recorded?

In accordance with district guidelines, students in grades K-2 are not assigned grades.  Teachers share student progress during conferences and with a portfolio report.  Students in grades 3-5 receive a report card every nine weeks.  

 

How do I contact my child’s teacher?

Teachers are available through e-mail or phone during their conference time or after school.  Please allow up to 24 hours for a response. Parents taking students to school are asked not to use class time to speak with their child or visit with the teacher. Keep in mind that when someone from the school contacts you, we’ll leave a message if possible. Please work on the same message protocol with your child at home, this way you are not left wondering who called or why. 

 

Can I bring birthday treats on my child’s birthday?

We love for children to feel special on their birthday! However, edible treats are NOT allowed. Parents have the option to send a small party favor such as a pencil or an eraser. Birthday party invitations may be distributed if you are inviting the whole class.  

 

What safety measures are in place at Brinker?

All visitors and parents MUST enter through the front doors and present their driver’s license to the office staff to receive a badge from our Raptor system. All adults in the building will wear an identification badge. This badge must be easily viewable or staff may ask to see it  Only staff members have access to enter the building from exterior doors. Students and staff regularly practice fire, severe weather, and intruder drills.  

 

Where do Volunteers go in the Building?

All volunteers need to complete a background check. Teachers will provide tasks for volunteers in the campus workroom. Please refrain from visiting your child's classroom during the day. We do not want to interrupt our excellent instruction.  

 

Can I eat lunch with my child?

Parents will need to make an appointment to eat lunch with your child with your classroom teacher.  Parents may only eat with their child at the designated table outside of the cafeteria.
