Texas temperatures may yet to have fallen much but the sights, sounds and smells of fall surround us. The cooler morning walks to school, pumpkins on the porches, spiced lattes at Starbucks, and kids talking about what Halloween costume it will be this year. It’s a time when we look into our children’s faces and fondly remember our own youth.
PTA kicks off fall in the Brinker community with a bushel of events:
October 2 - Picture Day. Be sure to wear your best smile!
October 4 - International Walk to School Day. Get up a little earlier, grab your coffee and meet your neighbors as you walk to Brinker.
October 5 - Dining Night at Newk’s. Take the night off and join us for dinner from 4-9pm. A portion of the proceeds goes back to PTA to fund student programs.
October 13 - Yard Sign Deadline. Click here to go purchase.
October 20 - Field Day. A time to run, jump and play! 100+ volunteers needed, click here to go to the Membership Toolkit and sign up today.
October 23 to 27 – Red Ribbon Week. Students spend the week discussing and reinforcing messages about making healthy life choices and PTA caps it off with a visit by the Mavs Man on Friday.
Please take time to enjoy this change of seasons and join us for all the fall fun this month.

BRINKER BEARS CARE Support for Texans in Need
Brinker PTA appreciates your support of our Community Outreach collection drive held in September in support of Hurricane Harvey and other recent hurricane evacuees and victims. We are proud of our Brinker Bears and their learning to give to others in need. A few of our fabulous fifth graders helped load a SUV to the max with diapers, wipes, formula, toiletries, new socks and underwear. All items collected were delivered to Rainbow Days, a non-profit organization in Dallas (rainbowdays.org) who works directly with many of these hurricane evacuee families who are currently in Dallas area shelters. Rainbow Days was so happy to have a stock of supplies to use!
Watch your Brinker PTA Bear Facts for upcoming “Brinker Bears Care” community outreach projects!
TUESDAY TUNES: SEPTEMBER PERFORMERS
We are proud to recognize our September performers, 4th grader Henry Arnold and 5th graders Ethan Zhang, Aarush Dasani, who opened the new Tuesday Tunes season. Thank you for sharing your beautiful music right at the start of the school year, as we know it takes some extra effort. You all had exceptional performances!
If your student musician would like to perform for their friends and teachers before the start of school on Tuesday morning, please register on the Brinker Toolkit. Time slots of filling up fast!
Benefits of Playing Musical Instruments: Confidence. Building confidence is a very important skill that gets developed while learning to play musical instruments. Confidence grows naturally with the sense of accomplishment that comes from mastering a complex skill and receiving recognition. Hearing the audience erupt in applause after a stellar performance would boost anyone's self-esteem. But we should bear in mind that getting onto the stage already requires a lot of nerve, and it is something that every young musician must learn how to accomplish. Overcoming "stage fright" and "cold feet" takes practice and requires stepping out your comfort zone, as well as maintaining positive thinking. Young musicians also learn that being well-prepared for an event and dressing appropriately also have a positive effect on self-confidence. All this experience comes in handy in many other life situations!

The National PTA Reflections program encourages students of all ages and abilities to explore and be involved in the arts. Through this program, National PTA, Brinker PTA, and PTAs across the country urge students to create and submit original works of art in the medium of their choice— dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts — reflecting on a specific theme, Within Reach. There also is a special artist division option for students with disabilities to ensure that all students have the opportunity to participate in the program. Students are recognized each year for their artistic ingenuity to bring the theme to life in a way that is personal and meaningful. Click hereto see the flier for more details.
