Week 2 is now in the books and Labor Day is here. I am not sure about you, but a day off to rest and reflect sure seems fitting to me. Did you know that Labor Day is the national holiday celebrating the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well being of our country? This makes me think about all the elements that make the Brinker Community strong, prosperous and well taken care of: Brinker students, families, teachers, staff and PTA members. We all make up the fabric of our community and are here to support one another.
Brinker Elementary is a wonderful school, with amazing and caring teachers and staff and an AWESOME Brinker PTA ready to welcome and support you and your child along his or her educational journey. We want you to feel a part of our Brinker community. Please let the Brinker PTA help you ease some of the stress of a new school by keeping you constantly informed, answering your questions and introducing you to other families who will be dear friends and the support you need during your years at Brinker Elementary. And to our “seasoned” Brinker families, please show your “Brinker Spirit” and reach out and show everyone how awesome our Brinker community is. Please join us at our Newcomers Coffee on Friday, September 8th @ 7:45am in the library.
We have a jam-packed calendar of Brinker PTA-sponsored events, activities and programs, so join us and have a great school year.
We wanted to give a huge thank you to our Environmental Chair, Querube Tamez, and her committee of Brinker student helpers who worked hard to plant all of our outside planters full of colorful flowers. We appreciate your dedication to the beautification of the Brinker Community.

PISD VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS
Have you completed your Volunteer Application for the 2017-18 school year? PISD requires all volunteers to complete this application EVERY school year. We encourage ALL parents to complete and submit an application for security clearance - if you are one of our volunteers or just planning to attend a classroom party. Please visit the PISD Volunteer Application page to access the online application - it takes about 5 minutes to complete.
Click here to go to the PISD Volunteer Application page or here to go to directly to the application.
Our VIP Program is an awesome, fun way for parents, grandparents or community members, to volunteer and help our Brinker students directly. You commit half an hour a week to assist a student who needs a little extra support in math and/or reading, as well as boosting the student’s confidence in their academics. If you choose to sign up to volunteer, you will submit your available days and times you can be at Brinker to tutor during school hours. You will be paired with a student or may also select whether you prefer to work with the younger or older grades and if you prefer to tutor in reading or math.
You do not need to be a teacher or a former teacher to be able to tutor. The students’ teachers will provide you with the assignments and information for each tutoring session. Training will be held on September, 6th at 9am. If interested, please e-mail email@example.com. There is a great need for tutors, especially during the second semester.
TEACHER WORKROOM HELP
If you can count to 28, use a paper cutter, tear out pages from a workbook and staple, then the Brinker Workroom needs you! We need at least 4-5 volunteers each week to help our teachers with behind the scenes work. This time will be spent on work assignments and projects for all grade levels, including PACE and Special Education.
All instructions and supplies are provided. The Brinker Workroom is located inside the library and is available each week, Tuesday through Friday, 7:30am-2:45pm. There will be training provided on September 12. If you volunteer to help or show interest in helping, we will contact you regarding training. To volunteer, click here to go to the Brinker PTA Membership Toolkit and look for the Teacher Workroom volunteer form.
This is a great opportunity to see what our children are learning and give a helping hand to our wonderful teachers! If you have any questions, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.

TEXAS READING PROGRAMS
Every year the Texas Library Association selects a number of books to be nominated for the Texas Bluebonnet Award and for the 2x2 reading list. A new list of books is released each year at the Texas Book Festival. These lists will be announced by flyer during the first month of school at Brinker and all of these books can be found in our Brinker Library, at the local public library and also can be requested online through the Plano library website www.planolibrary.org and held if you have difficulty finding them on the shelves.
Brinker PTA recognizes 3rd - 5th grade students who read at least 10 books from the Bluebonnet list and Kindergarten – 2nd grade students who read at least 15 books from the 2x2 list. Students who read the books and turn in their reading logs by the deadline will be recognized and rewarded in the Spring after school at Brinker. For questions, contact email@example.com.
Brinker Elementary PTA encourages all students to express themselves and explore their talents through the National PTA Reflections Program. Reflections is PTA’s cornerstone arts program. Each year, students in Grades Pre-K through 12 are recognized for bringing the theme to life through: • Dance choreography • Film production • Literature • Music composition • Photography • Visual arts
The theme for 2017-2018 is “Within Reach”. Use your imagination to create a film, song, artwork, photograph, poem, short story or dance routine. Refer to the flyer for more information.
