Letter from our PTA President - Jeanne Koepke
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." - Nelson Mandela
Keep calm; its almost summer! It 's right around the corner - just a few more days. And to kick off summer, we have the highly anticipated Brinker Bash on the last day of school. It has been such an amazing year and I can't thank all of you enough for your support. Brinker does so much great work throughout the year and it would not be possible without all the help and support of the PTA and its many volunteers.
I would like to thank the teachers and staff at Brinker for all of their support as well. It has always been such a comforting feeling to walk into Brinker and see Mrs. Bibby's happy smile greeting me, along with Nurse Megan. Both of these women work extremely hard throughout the day, but always have a warm greeting for everyone. A very special "shout out" goes to Barbara, Todd and Beverly. They have been such a huge support system for me this year. There is a tremendous amount of work that goes on behind the scenes and these three are critical in making sure everything runs smoothly. We have had many long discussions throughout the year, along with lots of giggles; they have been a pleasure to work with.
Your new President for next year, Julie Pascuzzi, will do an amazing job. She has a great team behind her to support her for this next school year. Julie has been a dedicated PTA member for the last 6 years and has held numerous positions for Brinker. Julie's energy and knowledge will be a perfect fit for Brinker!
As the last day of school approaches, it makes me both happy and a little sad. Brinker has been our "home" for the last 8 years. We have loved this school, the fabulous teachers and the great education that both my kids have received. We have made many friends at Brinker who will be friends for life. Whether you are a new or an existing family at Brinker, enjoy this time and get to know the staff and teachers. This school is amazing and is providing a fabulous foundation for your kids that will serve them well in the future!
VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH: HOSPITALITY TEAM
Congratulations to our Volunteers of the Month - Tamie Burnett, Keitha Kuester, Sarah Kissel, Jeanne Koepke, Julie Pascuzzi, Dana Freed and Kristine Edwards! This wonderful Hospitality Team volunteered many hours to make Staff Appreciation Week such a huge success. The Brinker Staff enjoyed a fun week filled with different themes and surprises each day. Thank you, ladies!

JUNE 12 - EARLY BIRD DEADLINE TO PURCHASE SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Each year, the PTA offers parents the opportunity to purchase pre-packaged school suppliesthat have been approved by your child's teachers for the following school year. This offer gives parents a one-stop purchase option for school supplies, avoiding the worry and hassle at the end of the summer of having to find all the supplies needed on the teacher's list. Parents purchasing supplies before June 13 will receive early bird pricing discounts and supply packages purchased before that date will be delivered to your child's class room for Meet the Teacher. (School supply packages can still be purchased between June 13 and August 19 but without the early bird discount. Purchases between June 13 and August 19 will be delivered during the first two weeks of school.) To purchase school supplies, log in to theMembership Toolkit, go to the Account Login page and select the "2015-2016 School Supplies Early-Bird Sales" form. Please contact Jennifer Hersh at email@example.com questions.
YEAR-END WRAP UP
SPRING ART WEEK
After recently studying Picasso’s style of monochromatic painting in art class, Mr. Grundler had our Brinker students create their own monochromatic acrylic self-portrait on canvas during week of May 18 - 22. Each grade level had its own class color and the students put their own creative spin on their “portrait.” Mr. Grundler has created a panoramic collage photo of all the canvases to hang at Brinker! What a fun Spring Art Week! Thanks to the many volunteers who assisted in the art studio that week and the Brinker PTA for providing the canvases and paint for this special project!
We had another great year with Brinker Tuesday Tunes music program this year. We appreciate everyone who participated in this inspiring program geared towards helping students build on their passion for the performing arts. For those attending Brinker next year, we hope you will sign up to perform for teachers and students next year. Watch for sign-up opportunities when the Membership Toolkit opens for the new school year on August 1.
NEW PICNIC TABLES
Many of you may have noticed the new picnic tables outside of the school cafeteria next to the car pool lane. The PTA has gifted these tables to Brinker so that parents can enjoy lunch with their students outside on nice weather days and so that teachers can reward their classes from time to time with an outdoor lunch. Many thanks to Jeanne Koepke for leading the charge on such a great addition. Enjoy!
Letter from 2015-16 PTA President - Julie Pascuzzi
Hi Brinker families! My name is Julie Pascuzzi and I am the incoming Brinker PTA President for 2015-16 school year. After a great year in our beautifully renovated Brinker, I am excited for all the continued fun and enrichment events and programs that our wonderful PTA provides for the students, faculty and families of our Brinker community.
Below are a few days to add to your summer calendars:
July 1 – PISD security clearance for all volunteers is open for the 2015-16 school year. It is Plano ISD policy that volunteers complete the security clearance Volunteer Application every school year. I recommend doing this as soon as possible, so you are ready to start the new school year and able to volunteer. Click here to access the PISD page for volunteer clearance.
August 1 – Brinker PTA Membership Toolkit Opens
August 19 – Back to Brinker – 5 – 7 pm in the Brinker gym
August 21 – Meet the Teacher – 7:30 – 8:30 am (Note that Back to Brinker and Meet the Teacher are separate events for 2015-16)
August 24 – First Day of School
For our incoming Kindergartners, we are still working on a “Kinder Social” event to occur over the summer. We will send information as soon as it is available.
Have a fantastic summer and remember: “You can lean many things from children. How much patience you have for instance.” -- Franklin P. Jones
2015-16 READING LISTS
If you are looking for ways to entertain your Bear this summer, reading books from the Texas 2x2 Reading List and Texas Bluebonnet Awards are a great way to keep students engaged and get ahead for he next school year. These award books can be found at our local public libraries. Click on the links below for each reading list:
One easy way to help the PTA provide all of the fun and educational events and programs for Brinker students is by saving the “Boxtops for Education” coupons from the products you purchase everyday. One “Boxtop” is worth .10 cents. If every student saves just 10 “Boxtops” this summer, that would be over $700! Boxtops are found on many products, such as Pillsbury, General Mills cereals, Ziplock bags, Progresso, Chex Mix and many, many more. Just snip the “Boxtop coupon” off the packaging and save them - so easy! Please help Brinker PTA with this simple fund-raiser and watch for information in the fall about when and how to turn them in.
Be a part of diverting thousands of pounds of shoes and clothing from local landfills by filling our shoes and clothing donation bin with your gently used shoes, clothing, purses, belts, wallets, hats, caps, backpacks, hard toys, stuffed animals and pots and pans. For every pound collected from you, our PTA will receive $0.15 per pound. The benefit to you? Neater closets, drawers, toy boxes, and kitchens, and the knowledge that less textile waste will end up in our local landfills. So over the summer, start filling up boxes. Our collection container will located behind the cafeteria where the bulk trash and recycling bins for the school are located.
2015-2016 PTA MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
PTA membership is now open for the 2015-2016 school year. For those new to our school, every dollar the PTA takes in goes directly back to programs for all students at the school. Just a few of the programs paid for and organized by the PTA include:
Author and Storyteller Visits
High Tech High Touch Science Visits
Heroes in History Visits
Chess Enrichment Program
Young Rembrandts Art Enrichment Program
Fall and Spring Art Weeks
Cultural Diversity Day
2x2 and Bluebonnet Reading List Parties
Fall Family Picnic
Brinker Bash - Year End Student Party
Class Field Trips
Being a member of the PTA does not require that you volunteer your time. But your membership and support of the PTA ensures that we have the funds to continue providing excellent programs that supplement the education teachers provide to our students.
To become a member of the PTA for the 2015-2016 school year, log in to the Membership Toolkit, go to the Account Login page and select the "2015-2016 PTA Membership Dues" form. All PTA members will receive a complimentary copy of the 2015-2016 Brinker PTA Membership Directory. Only PTA members can receive a copy of this directory.
