MAY 2019

Letter from our PTA President - Alison Grzyb

Happy May, Brinker Families!

This is my last letter for the Brinker Bear Facts as I finish my 2-year term as President of the Brinker PTA and my 11th and last year as a Brinker parent. I look back over the past eleven years with gratitude to our Brinker teachers, staff and administration for all the support they have given me and our PTA. I feel blessed by all the new friends I have made and all the old friends that now feel like family. Finally, I am thankful to all of you in our Brinker Community for giving your financial support, donations and time volunteering at Brinker and our Brinker PTA activities, programs and events. Thank you!

To my 2018-19 PTA Board and Chairs, please know that you have made such a difference at Brinker with your time, talents and service. You have made my job so much easier. Thank you!! It has been a pleasure to serve with you!

Though I may not be at Brinker daily, I look forward to hearing about all the great things that Brinker PTA will do in 2019-20. Sarah Kissel, our incoming PTA President and the PTA Board are awesome!

I wish you and your families a happy and healthy end of the school year and a fantastic summer!

Warmest Regards,
Alison Grzyb

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH: ANGIE WALKER

Congratulations to our April Volunteer of the Month, Angie Walker! Angie has been very busy this year photographing the students and events for coverage in the Brinker yearbook. She is the creative heart of the yearbook, doing everything from developing the theme and taking tons of pictures, to creating the amazing layout on each and every page. This is the perfect role for Angie since she was yearbook editor for Plano East during her senior year. Angie's family consists of Connor, a third grader, Brooklyn a first grader, Noah, a four year old who will attend Brinker in the fall of 2020, her corgi, Chloe, as well as husband Mike. In her spare time, her hobbies include photography and watching her kids play soccer. Congrats again to Angie and thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to our kids' school!

HIGH TOUCH HIGH TECH VISITS 4th GRADE

High Touch High Tech brought "Globs, Goo and Guts" to the 4th Graders on April 11. The students had amazing hands-on lessons on the digestive processes and examined real animal organs (tongue, stomach, heart, kidney) up close!  They also explored the circulatory system by using real stethoscopes to monitor their heart rates.  It was an incredible experience for all!  Thank you for supporting the PTA so we can continually bring exciting hands-on science programs like High Touch High Tech to our students!

NTPA THEATRE PERFORMANCE

On April 16th, the PTA brought North Texas Performing Art's traveling theater troupe to Brinker for a performance of "Chicken Big", based on the popular children's book by Keith Graves. The Kindergarteners, 1st and 2nd graders thoroughly enjoyed the fully-staged theater performance about a coop of chickens learning to accept and embrace one's differences. The students had a brief Q&A after the performance and they learned a little about the actors and different aspects of theater production.

Your PTA membership allows us to bring exciting Arts in Education programs like these to our students. Thank you!

TUESDAY TUNES: APRIL PERFORMERS

Thank you Aarav Dasani, Jean Gan and Saanvi Agarwal for your wonderful music performed in April! You made our Tuesday mornings so special.

Benefits of Playing Musical Instruments: Improved Sense of Time and Time Management. In a way music is all about time. It is essential for musicians to have an acute feel for tempo, rhythm and meter. A steady beat is the first thing that captures an audience. Developing a sense of rhythm can have benefits that extend to other pursuits, like sports, academics and daily activities. A time sense is very important in taking time-based school tests. Young musicians also master time management skills while planning daily practice and concert preparation.
