MARCH 2018

Letter from our PTA President - Alison Grzyb

High Five Brinker Families!

We survived February, the flu season and what seemed like never ending rain! Our entire Brinker community is ready for a fresh and healthy start this March. The weather is getting warmer, the days last longer, and the plants and trees begin to bloom. To celebrate, I hope you will join us on Friday, March 23 as we catch the rainbow from 5-6pm in the Brinker parking lot for our 3rd Annual Brinker Color Fun Run.

The Brinker Color Fun Run is a PTA-sponsored event for our Brinker students and families. It’s a GREAT way to spend a Spring evening cheering on our Brinker Bears as they have a blast running laps while being sprinkled with a rainbow of color! This event is promoting healthy lifestyles for our kids, building our community and supporting our PTA programs enriching and enhancing every student’s educational experience. Click here to sign up your student(s) for the Color Fun Run today!

SAVE THE DATE!
• Student Recognition Night & PTA General Meeting, Wednesday, March 21st.
• Spring Fling is coming Friday, April 13th.

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH: PHYLLIS WAN-HUEN

Congratulations to Phyllis Wan-Huen, our Brinker PTA Volunteer of the Month! Phyllis and her husband have three children, a 2nd grader, a kindergartner, a 4 year old, and a Black Lab!  Phyllis has been an active volunteer since moving here from New York two years ago. This year alone she volunteers for Young Rembrandts, Chess Club, Kindergarten Lunch Helpers, Reading Buddies, Library, and is the 2nd Grade Lead Homeroom Representative. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, baking, playing tennis and traveling.

TUESDAY TUNES: FEBRUARY PERFORMERS

Talented Tuesday Tunes performers continued to grace us with beautiful music in February. A big congratulations to 4th grade pianist Jadon Yuan, 5th grade pianist Devika Ramakrishna and 5th grade violinist Rahil Jiwani on their superb performances!

Tuesday Tunes is a program for young musicians, with at least two years of formal training, to showcase their talents in an informal setting. Performers infuse music in the hallways while peers and teachers walk to class and are recognized in the Good Morning Brinker broadcast following their performance.

Sign up here via the PTA toolkit. Email tuesdaytunes@brinkerpta.org for questions.

WINNERS, WINNERS, EVERYWHERE

What two states border Lake Champlain? Fremantle, Australia lies along what ocean? Is this the correct spelling for hyphen? How about hooligan?

Our annual Spelling and Geography Bees were filled with excitement and competition. Round after round, amazing students competed for the title of champion. In the end there was only one student left standing in each contest. Congratulations to Noah Grant of 5th Grade, our Geography Bee winner and Rehan Buvvaji of 4th Grade, our Spelling Bee winner. Well done!

KINDERGARTEN ROUNDUP - MARCH 23

Enrollment for 2018-19 Kindergarten students will take place on March 23 from 9-11 am & 1-3 pm. Getting an accurate number of students is very important in helping us plan for the number of classes and teachers we will need. A child must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2018 in order to attend Kindergarten. Each child will need immunization records signed by a doctor, certified birth certificate, child’s social security card, if available, proof of residency (current gas or electric bill or lease agreement) and parent’s driver’s license in order to register. If you know children in your neighborhood who will be in kindergarten next year, please let them know about round-up!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

PISD  VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS

Have you completed your Volunteer Application for the 2015-16 school year?  PISD requires all volunteers to complete this application EVERY school year.  We encourage ALL parents to complete and submit an application for security clearance - if you are one of our volunteers or just planning to attend a classroom party.  Please visit the PISD Volunteer Application page to access the online application - it takes about 5 minutes to complete.

If you have questions, contact volunteers@brinkerpta.org

Click here to go to the PISD Volunteer Application page or here to go to directly to the application.

Thanks for volunteering!

LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We have lots of openings for our library volunteer schedule. Volunteer timeslots cover 1-2 classes, and you would be helping to check-in/check-out and shelve books. It’s a great way to see your child at school! A few of our timeslots are completely full, but others have some days with no volunteers at all.

You can sign up on by clicking here to go to the PTA Membership Toolkit to find the 2017-2018 Library Volunteer form. For any questions, please e-mail library@brinkerpta.org.

V.I.P. TUTORS

Brinker would like to invite you to become a Very Important Partner (VIP) Tutor. Our VIP Program is an awesome, fun way for parents, and even grandparents or community members, to volunteer and help our Brinker students directly. You commit half an hour a week to assist a student who needs a little extra support in math and/or reading, as well as boosting the student’s confidence in their academics. If you choose to sign up to volunteer, you will submit your available days and times you can be at Brinker to tutor within the school day. You may also select whether you prefer to work with the younger grades or older grades, and whether you prefer to tutor in reading or math.

If interested, please e-mail viptutors@brinkerpta.org. The VIP program is a very rewarding way to help Brinker students.
