Letter from our PTA President - Alison Gryzb
Hello Brinker Bears!
The season of change is upon our Brinker Community. The end of the school year brings both the happiness and the winds of change of summer. It is the time of year we all look forward to: year-end spirit assembly, Brinker Bash, no more alarm clocks, no more making school lunches, outside voices all day long and much, much more. Yet it is balanced by the winds of change that include 5th grade graduation, goodbyes to our friends and teachers, and the change of our Brinker PTA Board and Chairs.
I am Alison Gryzb, the incoming PTA President for the 2017-18 school year, and I would like to personally send a heartfelt “Thank you” to all our PTA members and volunteers who served in their many roles and gave their time to the events of the past school year and our Brinker Staff and Teachers. In particular, a special thanks goes out to our outgoing president, Julie Pascuzzi for her limitless energy and optimism at all times. The 2017-2018 Board and Chairs welcome the challenge of carrying forward your legacy.
Although this school year is quickly winding down, before you “check out” for Summer Break, please put the following dates on your calendars:
July 1 – PISD Volunteer Security Clearance – for all volunteers is open for the 2017-18 school year. It is the Plano ISD policy that all volunteers complete the security clearance Volunteer Application every school year. I recommend doing this as soon as possible, so you are ready to start the 2017-18 school year and able to volunteer. Go to pisd.edu and click on Volunteer Application to find it.
July 15 - Brinker PTA Membership Toolkit Opens – You will be able to log in and order Brinker Spiritwear, 2017-18 Yearbooks, and 2017-18 PTA Membership.
August 16 –Back to Brinker Event – 5-7 pm in the Brinker Gym
August 18 – Meet the Teacher – 7:30-8:30 am
August 21 – First Day of School
August 22 – Brinker Back to School Coffee and General PTA Meeting – 7:45 am in the Brinker Library.
Also for our incoming Kindergarteners and their parents, there is a “Kindergarten Meet & Greet” during the summer. More details to follow. All incoming Kindergarteners and their families are invited!
If anyone has any questions or concerns over the summer, please do not hesitate to contact me at email@example.com. Happy Summer!

Supplies ordered after June 9 will be delivered during the the first week or two of school.
Brinker'safter-school Chess Club concluded with a tournament held at Parr Library. 18 students from both Brinker and Wesley Prep Academy participated. Students implemented chess moves they learned in class and competed in 3 rounds of games. Congratulations to Will Bowers (5th grade) for winning first place and Jeremy Birenbaum (2nd grade) for third place!
Special thanks also go out to Coach Hillman for another successful year of chess. He's the best for this group of bright kids.
Have a great summer! If you're interested in Chess Camp this summer (June 12-16, 9-12pm), please contact Coach Hillman directly at email@example.com.
TUESDAY TUNES WRAP UP
Thank you to Edgar Poon and Andrew O for outstanding performances in May.
We had another great year with Brinker Tuesday Tunes. We appreciate all musicians who participated in this inspiring program as well as our wonderful audience. We look forward to new performances next year! Remember, you should have at least 2 years of formal instrument training to be eligible. Stay tuned! Pun intended:)
THANK YOU BRINKERDAISY TROOP
On Saturday May 13, our Brinker Daisy Troop (and their moms) volunteered to beautify Brinker by planting beautiful spring flowers in the pots surrounding our flagpole. Thank you Brinker Daisies for your hard work and creative efforts in getting our school spiffed up for all our upcoming events, such as 2017 Senior Reception, 5th Grade Recognition Ceremony and the Brinker Bash. The front of Brinker looks so colorful and ready for lots of pictures! We appreciate you.
2017 GRADUATES - BRINKER BEAR ALUMNI
On May 24, 50 former Brinker Bears (dressed in their future college spiritwear) came "home" to reminisce with their classmates, hug Brinker staff and tour the new and improved Brinker campus. We are proud of these 2017 graduating Seniors and all of their accomplishments as they prepare to graduate in the next few weeks.
Each year, the Brinker PTA awards a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior who attended Brinker for at least grades 3 through 5. This year, after considering numerous very qualified and deserving candidates who submitted their applications, the Committee selected Paige Salters as the 2017 recipient of the scholarship. Paige was recognized at the reception. The Brinker PTA congratulates Paige and all of the applicants for their obvious dedication to academics and hours of service to our community.
THANKS TO 2016-17 VOLUNTEERS OF MONTHThank you again to our 2016-2017 Brinker Volunteers of the Month. The Brinker PTA, students, and staff sincerely appreciate your time and help!
April & Jerry Grizzle

If you are looking for ways to entertain your Brinker Bear during the summer, reading books from the Texas 2x2 Reading List and Texas Bluebonnet Awards are a great way to keep students engaged and get ahead for the next school year. These award-winning books can be found at our local public libraries. Click on the links below for each reading list:
One easy way to help the PTA provide all of the fun and educational events and programs for Brinker students is by saving the “Boxtops for Education” coupons from the products you purchase everyday. One “Boxtop” is worth .10 cents. If every student saves just 10 “Boxtops” this summer, that would be over $700! Boxtops are found on many products, such as Pillsbury, General Mills cereals, Ziplock bags, Progresso, Chex Mix and many, many more. Just snip the “Boxtop coupon” off the packaging and save them - so easy! Please help Brinker PTA with this simple fund-raiser and watch for information in the fall about when and how to submit.
SUMMER RECYCLING = $$$
Did you know that Brinker has a World Wide Wear bin right behind the school? As you clean out your closets this summer, please consider putting your clothing, shoe and old backpack donations in the large blue “World Wide Wear” bin located right behind Brinker. So convenient and easy and Brinker PTA gets paid by the pound for the collected monthly donations! We received over $350.00 from World Wide Wear last year from Brinker family clothing donations! It’s an easy way to raise money for next school year’s PTA budget over the summer. Thank you!
