This is my last letter for the Brinker Bear Facts as I finish my 2-year term as President of the Brinker PTA. I look back over the past two years with gratitude to our Brinker teachers, staff and administration for all the support they have given me and to our PTA. I feel blessed by all the new friends I have made and all the old friends that now feel like family. We have had amazing support from our Community Partners for our PTA events and programs this school year, including our newest ones Mi Cocina – for our Brinker Dining Night on April 25 and Barre3 Plano for our “Barre for Bears” fundraiser workout on May 2. Finally, I am thankful to all of you in our Brinker Community for giving your financial support, donations and time volunteering at Brinker and our Brinker PTA activities, programs and events. Thank you!
To my 2016-17 PTA Board and Chairs, please know that you have made such a difference at Brinker with your time, talents and service. You have made my job so much easier. Thank you!! It has been a pleasure to serve with you!
I’ll still be around Brinker for one more year (Jack will be in 5th grade), so I look forward to all the great things that Brinker PTA will do in 2017-18. Alison Grzyb, our incoming PTA President and the PTA Board are awesome!
I wish you and your families a happy and healthy end of the school year and a fantastic summer!
STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK IS IN FULL SWING
Today marks the first day of our much-anticipated Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week! Our amazing teachers and staff at Brinker do so much to cultivate our children's minds, and this week, we finally get a chance to formally appreciate them. The PTA has planned a busy week of events and the halls will be decorated with notes from our Brinker Bears. If you are interested in making a food donation or getting involved, please email email@example.com more information. Thank you, parents and families, for helping the PTA recognize what makes Brinker so great!
We also wanted to extend a special thanks to our awesome partners who either donated or offered discounts to make this week so special for our staff.

Benefits of Playing Musical Instruments: Perserverance
Musicianship comes with daily practice, often spanning many years. Young performers learn that success doesn't come easily and that they must always meet new challenges to achieve results. The effect of delayed gratification teaches them to appreciate the rewards that come with patience, persistence and dedication.
VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH: QUERUBE TAMEZ
Congratulations to Querube Tamez, our Brinker PTA Volunteer of the Month. Querube is an active Brinker PTA member and her friendly face can be seen often at Brinker. She volunteers in the 2nd and 4th grade classrooms. She works in both the library and teacher workroom. Querube helped volunteer at Field Day and the Book Fair. Querube also educated our Brinker students during Cultural Diversity Day. Querube has a second grade son, Marcelo, and fourth grade daughter, Graciela. Her youngest daughter will be in kindergarten next year. Thank you Querube for your many contributions to Brinker and the PTA!
WATCH D.O.G.S. RECAP
As we close out on another successful year of the Watch D.O.G.S. program, I want to say thank you to the over 100 fathers and father-figures that came to Brinker to be a Hero of the Hallways. In only its third year at Brinker, the Watch D.O.G.S. program has successfully established itself as a key program at the school to get men involved with their children’s educations and to support the community. The look on our children’s faces when they see the men in their Watch D.O.G.S. t-shirts is priceless.
The next election for Plano City Council Members (Places 2, 4, 6, and 8) will be held May 6, 2017. Also on the ballot is the School Board of Trustees (Places 1, 2, 3 and 6). Be informed and vote!
