This school year is moving swiftly by like one of our crazy Texas winds. Sometimes in the midst of the chaos, I need to take a moment to just reflect on all the great things that our Brinker PTA have organized for our Brinker Bears over the past few weeks. A few highlights:
Promoting Healthy Lifestyles and Community:
March 17–2ndAnnual Brinker Color Fun Run – Thanks to all who helped put this event together, especially our Color Run Chairs, Amy Matz and Amy Young, and for the support of our amazing Community Partners – The O’Gorman Group, Veritex Bank, Quest Capital Management, ProPac Marketing, and Market Street.
Promoting the Arts, Music and Culture:
March 22–A Professional Musical Theater Production of “June B. Jones’ Essential Guide to School” for our Kindergarten–3rd graders. It was so much fun!
March 30–Rhythm Path – Day of Drumming where all Brinker students played West African drums and learned about rhythm and teamwork.
Upcoming on April 7–Cultural Diversity Day Event for all Brinker Students to celebrate “It’s a Small World and Brinker Brings Us All Together!” More details on this event in the article below. Please volunteer and share your culture at brinkerpta.org.
Thank you for being members of our awesome Brinker PTA and continuing to support our fund-raising efforts so we can continue to bring quality programs, activities and events to Brinker!!
Finally, I would like to congratulate our newly elected 2017-18 Brinker Executive Board. These women were elected at our General PTA Meeting on March 21.
Next school year will be amazing with these women on our PTA Board. After the election meeting, we also celebrated many of our Brinker Bears who have won awards throughout the school year at our annual Student Recognition Night. Congrats to all!

BRINKER PTA CELEBRATES NEW LIFETIME MEMBERS
On February 28, 2017, we celebrated our newest PTA Lifetime Members at the Plano ISD PTA’s Lifetime Members Banquet at the Marriott Legacy Center. Congratulations to our Brinker PTA members who were recognized for all the amazing things they have done over the years for the Brinker PTA and their community-Austine Chan, Alice Chao, Rhonda Cleaves, Hema Kalyandurg, Paul Campbell and Nancy Burns-Whaley.
TUESDAY TUNES: MARCH PERFORMERS
Thank you Kayden Zhong, Devika Ramakrishna and Noah Kovoorfor your wonderful music performed during March. You made our Tuesday mornings so special.
Benefits of Playing Musical Instruments: Improved Sense of Time and Time Management
In a way music is all about time. It is essential for musicians to have an acute feel for tempo, rhythm and meter. A steady beat is the first thing that captures an audience. Developing a sense of rhythm can have benefits that extend to other pursuits, like sports, academics and daily activities. A time sense is very important in taking time-based school tests. Young musicians also master time management skills while planning daily practice and concert preparation.
VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH: AMY WALKER
Congratulations to Amy Walkerl, our Brinker PTA volunteer of the month. Amy is an active Brinker PTA member and you will see her smiling face helping throughout the school. Amy has been a Brinker PTA volunteer for many years. She has served as the Reflections Chair for 2 years, Co-Chaired the Craniologix program, and served as a Home Room Representative. Be on the lookout for emails from our Hospitality Group. We will need volunteers in the classroom on May 4 to allow all teachers and staff to partake in the luncheon. We also rely on food donations from parents to make the week’s events a success. If you have questions, ideas, or want to get involved, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
CULTURAL DIVERSITY DAY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We love that our Brinker Community is filled with so many diverse cultures. On April 7, the PTA is hosting Brinker's Cultural Diversity Day. We need LOTS of help for this event to be an enriching experience for all students! Please help us share your culture with our Brinker students.

At each of these stations, students will get to participate in FUN activities like making origami, learning dance, calligraphy, etc. No experience is needed! If you have not held a chair role before, please review the options and select those that you feel passionate about chairing.
If you have already been in a PTA role for 1 year and want to serve again, that is an option.
If you have served for 2 years in a role, it is time to make a change. There are lots of other opportunities to serve.
Our new PTA President will be filling all the PTA Chairs once she reviews this feedback. Thank you for your help!

SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR 2017-18 COMING SOON
Attention: All families with kids at Brinker next year...
Would you like to have one less thing on your to-do list for the upcoming school year?
Wouldn't it be SO nice to just show up at 'Meet the Teacher' with all required school supplies already in your child's classroom?
Would you like to avoid driving to multiple stores trying to track down manila paper, only to find that no one within a 50 mile radius has any?
If you answered YES to any of the above questions, be on the lookout for information on how to order your child's supplies in the next few weeks. Do it early. Mark it off your to-do list. And ensure a slightly less stressful back to school for yourself.
