Letter from our PTA President - Julie Pascuzzi
Happy almost Summer! On behalf of the Brinker 2015-16 Brinker PTA Executive Board and Chairs, I would like to thank all our Brinker families and staff for your support this school year. The volunteer hours at events, programs and activities, the financial support of all our fundraisers, the donation of extra supplies, and the smiling faces all contributed to Brinker PTA having an outstanding year! Thank you, thank you! Your support also made it easier for me to volunteer for my second year at Brinker PTA President!!
We would also like to say a huge thank you to the PTA Members of our 2016 5th graders! Many of you have been at Brinker for many years and your 5th grader is your last Brinker Bear. We appreciate all your time and support of the Brinker PTA, as Brinker went through renovations and continued growth. You all are rock stars and we wish you the best as your Brinker Bear moves on to middle school!
Brinker PTA wishes “Best Wishes on a Happy Retirement” to the following amazing Brinker Staff: Susan Snowden (Kindergarten Team Lead), Lilian Quigley (PE Team Lead), Julie Barnard (Instructional Specialist) and Zeba Hamid (Special Education) We appreciate your many years of educating our students and send you off with lots of Bear Hugs!
Although this school year is quickly winding down, before you “check out” for Summer Break, please put the following dates on your calendars:
July 1 – PISD Volunteer Security Clearance – for all volunteers is open for the 2016-17 school year. It is the Plano ISD policy that all volunteers complete the security clearance Volunteer Application every school year. I recommend doing this as soon as possible, so you are ready to start the 2016-17 school year and able to volunteer. Go to pisd.edu and click on Volunteer Application to find it.
July 15 - Brinker PTA Membership Toolkit Opens – You will be able to log in and order Brinker Spiritwear, 2016-17 Yearbooks, and 2016-17 PTA Membership.

5th grade parents: The time is here! Families are invited to attend the 5th Grade Recognition Ceremony on Wednesday, June 1, from from 9-10:30 am in the Brinker Gym. YEARBOOK SIGNING DAY
We hope you and your Brinker Bears are enjoying reviewing an action-packed year in the 2016 Brinker Yearbook. Over 70 pages packed with colorful pictures of our students having fun and learning. A huge shout out to the creative Sarah Duffy, our Brinker PTA Yearbook Chair, for putting together this amazing yearbook! Don’t forget to bring your yearbook to school on June 2 for “Yearbook Signing Day.”
Celebrate the last day of school with our Brinker Bears. It's our annual Brinker Bash, the party to end the school year and begin the summer! We will have music, dancing, games and a special frozen treat for the students.
We need two volunteers for each grade level to make our celebration a success. To volunteer, please log in to the Toolkit, click on the Orders/Volunteering tab and look for the Brinker Bash 2016 form. If all volunteer slots are full, please join and celebrate Bash with us! All volunteers and parents in attendance must have received prior security clearance through PISD.
The Brinker Bash schedule by grade level is as follows:
Believe it or not, it's already time to start thinking about next year!
In an effort to make your back to school experience a little less stressful, the Brinker PTA is offering you the opportunity to purchase your child's school supplies online for the 2016-2017 school year. School supply packets will only be accepted through June 10 (one week after school gets out). A second order willNOT be placed this year so order now. Purchase your supplies through the the Toolkit. 2015-2016 SCHOOL YEAR WRAP UP
BRINKER PTA IS BEAR-Y THANKFUL FOR LANA BIBBY
The Brinker PTA would like to thank Lana Bibby for her many years of support of the Brinker PTA and the Brinker community. Lana’s smiling face greeted us each time we came to the front office. She handled the ever-growing Brinker population and increased administrative tasks with poise and grace. She was always willing to help out the PTA behind the scenes, as we prepared for all the special events, parties and programs. Lana, we appreciate all you have done for the Brinker PTA and our families. Bear Hugs and best wishes!
A LETTER FROM LANA BIBBY
Dear Brinker Families,
I wanted to share that will be my last year at Brinker. It is time for me to spend more time with my family and get some long overdue family projects in order. When I came to Brinker, I never knew how many wonderful friends, students and families, and co-workers would become a part of my life. I have signed on as a clerical Substitute in the District so hopefully will get to see you from time to time. Have a wonderful summer and I wish all of you the best for the upcoming school year.
VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH: JIMMY O'GORMAN
Congratulations to Jimmy O' Gorman, our Brinker PTA volunteer of the month. Jimmy has two grandchildren at Brinker, Tate and Landry Ferguson. The teachers, staff, and especially the students look forward to seeing him regularly at Reading Buddies and during the Kindergarten and 2nd grade class parties. Brinker is lucky to not only have wonderful parent support but equally grateful to have grandparent volunteers as well. Thank you Jimmy!
TUESDAY TUNES: MAY PERFORMERS
During the month of May, Tuesday Tunes performers included Carra Cleaves, Sid Bidare, and Aarush Dasani (Kayden Zhong is pictured from his performance at the end of April). Thank you to all of our musicians, who shared their favorite music and talent with their fellow students. We loved that our young musicians gained confidence and motivation to practice, while meeting new friends at Brinker who play instruments. Thank you to all of the Tuesday Tunes performers for entertaining us all year!
2016 GRADUATES - BRINKER BEAR ALUMNI
On May 18, 50 former Brinker Bears (dressed in their future college spiritwear) came "home" to reminisce with their classmates, hug Brinker staff and tour the new and improved Brinker campus. We are proud of these 2016 graduating Seniors and all of their accomplishments as they prepare to graduate in the next few weeks. Our Brinker PTA was honored to award, Brinker alumni, Rachel Bershad, a $1,000 Brinker PTA scholarship.

We had another fantastic year of after-school Chess Enrichment. Our students learned various strategic chess moves and competed in the Spring Chess Tournament. Congratulations to Will Bowers, 4th grade, for winning second place!
Chess summer camp is offered by USCF Certified Coach Hillman in June (Session 1: June 20-23, Session 2: June 27-30). Visit http://afterschoolchess.netfor details and registration.
Be on the lookout in August for details to register your student this Fall. If you have questions, contact email@example.com.
SAVE THOSE BOX TOPS
One easy way to help the PTA provide all of the fun and educational events and programs for Brinker students is by saving the “Boxtops for Education” coupons from the products you purchase everyday. One “Boxtop” is worth .10 cents. If every student saves just 10 “Boxtops” this summer, that would be over $700! Boxtops are found on many products, such as Pillsbury, General Mills cereals, Ziplock bags, Progresso, Chex Mix and many, many more. Just snip the “Boxtop coupon” off the packaging and save them - so easy! Please help Brinker PTA with this simple fund-raiser and watch for information in the fall about when and how to submit.
Be a part of diverting thousands of pounds of shoes and clothing from local landfills by filling our shoes and clothing donation bin with your gently used shoes, clothing, purses, belts, wallets, hats, caps, backpacks, hard toys, stuffed animals and pots and pans. For every pound collected from you, our PTA will receive $0.15 per pound. The benefit to you? Neater closets, drawers, toy boxes, and kitchens, and the knowledge that less textile waste will end up in our local landfills. So over the summer, start filling up boxes. Our collection container will located behind the cafeteria where the bulk trash and recycling bins for the school are located.
2016-17 BRINKER PTA BOARDS & CHAIRS
Please join us in congratulating and supporting the following Brinker PTA Members who will volunteer their time to serve in the following positions on the 2016-17 Brinker PTA Board and Chairs. A huge thank you to these volunteers for serving!
