I hope everyone has been “surviving” this Texas Winter. What amazing weather we have had so far in 2016. How can you not want to spend time outside in the sunshine and pleasant temperatures? To take advantage of this great weather, I would love for you to join me at Brinker’s Inaugural Color Fun Run on Friday, March 18 from 5-6 pm. We are promoting the importance of exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle choice of our Brinker students and community. Our own Brinker Bears can run/walk laps while being sprinkled with a safe color powder. What great, messy fun and great pictures!!! Have I mentioned that our students can ask their family and friends to sponsor them with pledges for the numbers of laps they complete? All the money they collect will go directly to purchasing needed technology devices for use by our students in the classroom. It’s going to be an awesome community event and fundraiser for Brinker.
A huge thank you to all our Color Fun Run corporate sponsors. We are so appreciative of your support of our students and our school. Your generosity has been tremendous. Thank you, thank you!
Everyone have a safe and healthy Spring Break & I hope to see you on March 18!

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH: SHELLY PROWELL
Congratulations to Shelly Prowell, our Brinker PTA volunteer of the month.Shelly is an active Brinker PTA member and always ready to support where she can. She has a 1st grade daughter at Brinker. Shelly was very involved with the planning and preparations for Movie Night with Dad in January. Her creativity, time and energy helped make this community event a huge success for Brinker families. She makes the best movie popcorn in Texas! Thank you Shelly for your many contributions to Brinker and the PTA!
4TH GRADE SERVICE PROJECT
As a service project, during our Valentines Day parties, 4th grade homeroom representatives reached out to Scottish Rite Children's Hospital to see if they had any specific needs we could help fulfill. According to representatives at the hospital, craft items are always needed as activities for kids to do while they are inpatient going through treatment. We asked our 4th grade families to send in donations on party day and we would delivery to the hospital.
We are so thankful and proud of the abundance of donations we received. Thank you so much to our 4th grade families! Hopefully our donation will help kids smile and help the time pass quicker while they are at Scottish Rite.
A special thank you to April Grizzle (Ms. Kim's homeroom parent) for representing our 4th graders and making this extra special delivery for our students.
BOOK FAIR SUCCESS
The Brinker PTA would like to thank you for making the Feelin' Groovy Spring Book Fair a huge success. Not only did we exceed our fundraising goal, we donated over $300 in books to Shields Elementary in Red Oak ISD. Brinker students & families are FAR OUT, and we appreciate you!

It is a great opportunity for you and your child to celebrate the incredible progress he/she is making this year. Please note this conference is different from the others we’ve had in that your child will be the teacher and share what has been learned. Of course, the teachers will be here to answer questions.

KINDERGARTEN ROUNDUPMARCH 18
Enrollment for 2016-17 Kindergarten students will take place on March 18 from 9-11 am and 1-3 pm.Getting an accurate number of students is very important in helping us plan for the number of classes and teachers we will need. A child must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2016 in order to attend Kindergarten. Each child will need immunization records signed by a doctor, certified birth certificate, child’s social security card, if available, proof of residency (current gas or electric bill or lease agreement) and parent’s driver’s license in order to register. If you know children in your neighborhood who will be in kindergarten next year, please let them know about round-up!

WORKROOM HELP NEEDED
If you can count to 28, use a paper cutter, tear out pages from a workbook and staple, then the Brinker Workroom needs you! We need at least 4-5 volunteers each week to help our teachers with behind the scenes work. This time will be spent on work assignments and projects for all grade levels, including PACE and Special Education.
All instructions and supplies are provided. The Brinker Workroom is located inside the library and is available each week, Tuesday through Friday (7:30am-2:45pm). To volunteer, go to the Orders/Volunteering tab on the PTAMembership Toolkitand look for the Teacher Workroom volunteer form.
This is a great opportunity to see what our children are learning and give a helping hand to our wonderful teachers! If you have any questions, please contact Ritu Narayan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We have lots of openings for the spring library volunteer schedule. Volunteer timeslots cover 1-2 classes, and you would be helping to check-in/check-out and shelve books. It’s a great way to see your child at school! A few of our time slots are completely full, but others have some days with no volunteers at all. Click here to see the teacher library times for all grades.
You can sign up on Toolkit – just look for the 2015-2016 Library Volunteer form. For any questions, please e-mail Heather Burchett at email@example.com.
CELEBRATING THE MONTH OF MUSIC
This month, Tuesday Tunes is celebrating music in our schools, so we would like to recognize the wonderful performers who have filled the hallways with joyful sounds on Tuesday mornings, as well as our amazing audience. We know how much work goes into preparing for each recital, and we appreciate what our talented, dedicated, and brave performers do. Keep up the good work! But no musical show is complete without an audience, so we are grateful to students, teachers and staff who stop by to listen to Tuesday Tunes performers. It is your enthusiasm and support which makes Tuesday Tunes a popular weekly event at Brinker, and a welcome reward for our young musicians. If you haven’t had a chance to hear a Tuesday Tunes performance, we encourage you to come a little bit earlier on Tuesdays, and stop by and listen in the hallway just outside the library; the performers start playing at 7:30 am. Your applause means a lot to our musicians!
Also, we are pleased to announce that Friday voice performances will start on March 4. Are you a trained singer? If so, then this is your chance! Only this month, we are making special additions to our program on Fridays for singers with 2 years (or more) of formal training in voice. There are two spots available, so make sure to reserve yours now.
And last, but not least, two of our dedicated Tuesday Tunes performers, Daisy Gan and Shakti Ramakrishna, will share their talent with us during the March 22 PTA meeting.

Space is limited to the first 15 students. Please visit theYoung Rembrandts websiteto register for classes on the Brinker campus. The deadline for registration is Friday, March 25.
Hopefully, you have already started on this year's Bluebonnet & 2x2 book lists. The 2x2 list is for grades K-2 & the Texas Bluebonnet reading list is for grades 3-5. The books are available both at the Brinker and public libraries.
As a reward, when your child reads at least 13 books from the list, they will be invited to attend a pizza/ice cream party after school on Tuesday, March 22, for children who have completed the 2x2 reading list and on Thursday, March 24, for children who have completed the Bluebonnet reading lists. A reading log should have been provided to your child or can be found through the links above. Please complete the logs and return it to your child's teacher or the librarian, Mrs. Miller, by March 14.
