We are winding down 2015 and celebrating the season of many holidays. I wanted to recognize some “early gifts” that Brinker has already received, our PTA Board & Chairs. They have worked so hard this Fall to plan, train and execute our PTA Programs and Events and are planning much, much more for Brinker this Spring:
Lisa Davisson – Historian & Scrapbook Chair Ed Chao – Watch DOGS
Sarah Duffy – Yearbook Lusine Meeks - Parlimentarian
Karen Ricketts – Past Board Member
These volunteers are amazing and we appreciate the time and talents they bring to Brinker! Lots more is planned for our Brinker students, families and staff in 2016! I wish you a healthy and happy Winter Break. Enjoy!!
VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH:Cherline Pierre
Congratulations to Cherline Pierre, our Brinker PTA volunteer of the month! Cherline and her second grade son, Jeremiah, are new to Brinker this year. Cherline jumped right in and joined the PTA and started volunteering.
Cherline generously helps the staff and students by volunteering her time in the teacher work room. She is also a grade level volunteer. During the fall, she volunteered at the family picnic and the book fair. Cherline can be found helping in any area of the school that is in need of volunteers. Thank you Cherline for all you do at Brinker. Please congratulate Cherline when you see her!
NOVEMBER TUESDAY TUNES PERFORMERS: Ailin Liu & Lauren Sesona (October), Kyra Zrno, Tanvi Joshi & Saura Agarwal
In November, Brinker had another outstanding month of performers. The students were able to share their favorite music with fellow Brinker students. They also gained confidence and motivation to practice, while meeting new friends at Brinker who play instruments. We have more great music to come as all spots of filled for the remainder of the semester.
RECAP OF NOVEMBER BRINKER ACTIVITIES - Red Ribbon Week, Cafeteria Cops, Bluebonnet Author Visit & Book Fair
NANCY & HER FRIENDS: Brinker students LOVED Nancy and Her Friends during Red Ribbon Week. They were engaged in Nancy’s storytelling and message about drug awareness and teaching them respect for themselves and others. Nancy’s program was another way PTA supports Brinker by helping students learn how to make good choices with friends.
CAFETERIA COPS: To help students celebrate Thanksgiving during the school week before break, the PTA brought back the Plano Police Crime Prevention team to do their Cafeteria Cops program during the lunch hour. It was a HUGE success! Kids enjoyed their lunch hour with singing and dancing in the cafeteria. This crime prevention program helps police build relationships with elementary students, as well as giving them respect and appreciation for the police officers who keep our neighborhoods safe.
VISIT FROM MIKE LANE, AUTHOR OF "THE VANISHING COIN": Brinker was thrilled to welcome magician and author, Mike Lane, a 2015 Texas Bluebonnet nominee. During his visit to 3rd-5th graders, Mike performed a magic show and signed copies of his book. The kids were full of questions about his book and truly amazed by his tricks. Thank you for your continued support for the PTA to be able to bring great authors, like Mike, to our school to inspire our students.
BOOK FAIR: Books, books, books! We had another near record breaking book fair. The kids had a blast meeting Clifford, the Plano West Royales and football players at family night! A BIG thank you goes out to all of the numerous volunteers who gave their time to help set up, run and break down the book fair. We appreciate the help from each and every one of you; it takes a village and we couldn't have done it without all of you. We are looking forward to another great book fair in the spring!
CANNED FOOD DRIVE NOVEMBER 30-DECEMBER 3
Celebrate the holiday season and share canned goods to help benefit Plano families. Please support our food drive by sending only canned goods with your child during the week of Nov 30-Dec 3.
Show your child how community service works by packing cans together after school on December 3 and delivering them to the drop-off location. Your team effort would mean so much to our community. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org more information.
EAT A RED APPLE DAYDECEMBER 1
The PTA is having an event for National Eat a Red Apple Day! On Tuesday, December 1, as students arrive at school, there will be fresh red apples available on tables by the gym doors and in the hallway by the front doors. Students are welcome to take one apple, if they wish.
National Eat a Red Apple Day is a simple way to help Brinker students learn healthy habits. This unique and fun national ‘holiday’ creates healthy opportunities and events for students and staff at Brinker. The PTA is excited to support the school and its programs in making Brinker a healthy place for students and help create messages about making healthy choices.

JOIN THE PTA
Please join us as a member of the PTA for the 2015-2016 school year. By joining for the first time or renewing your membership each year, the PTA is able to provide student programs to help make every child's potential a reality. We encourage all parents, grandparents, staff, and community members to join the Brinker PTA. PTA Membership does NOT require volunteering or any kind of time commitment. We only ask that you help support the programs and events that we provide for ALL students, ALL staff and ALL families throughout our community. Our goal is 100% participation. Only Members of the PTA will receive a Student Directory.
We have lots of openings for the fall library volunteer schedule. Volunteer timeslots cover 1-2 classes, and you would be helping to check-in/check-out and shelve books. It’s a great way to see your child at school!
You can sign up on PTA Toolkit – just look for the 2015-2016 Library Volunteer form. For any questions, please e-mail Heather Burchett at email@example.com.
