Well, the summer of 2015 just flew by, didn’t it?!?! I hope your summer was fun and relaxing for your family like it was for mine. As August 24 quickly approaches, I want to wish all of our new and returning Brinker families and wonderful Brinker staff a sincere “Welcome Back!”
I am Julie Pascuzzi, the 2015-16 Brinker PTA President. I’m starting my 7th year as a Brinker parent (and 1st year as a Renner Middle School parent)! I feel so blessed to have my kids go to such an excellent elementary school and be apart of an amazing community of parents, caregivers, teachers and staff. As we start this new school year, I urge you to be an active part of our Brinker Community. The community around you and your children at this school will provide you with so much knowledge and support to make the years at Brinker great ones if you get involved!
One of the easiest ways to be “in the know” is to join the Brinker PTA. We won’t make you serve on committees and attend a ton of meetings, but we will be provide you with regular communications on the great events and activities that are sponsored by the Brinker PTA throughout the year as well as ways you can volunteer or provide other support. I will also guarantee that you will increase your circle of friends and community by being a member of the Brinker PTA.
Please join us at our first PTA event of the school year: “Back to Brinker” which will be held in the Brinker Gym on Wednesday, August 19 from 5-7 pm. At Back to Brinker you can order Brinker Spirit Wear, yearbooks, join the PTA, and find out about the many other activities sponsored by the PTA, such as Tuesday Tunes, Young Rembrandts, Chess Club and others. It is a great time to see old friends and meet some new ones! Brinker PTA also has arranged for a Kona Ice truck to be in the parking lot, so bring your cash and get a cool ice treat and socialize with other families at the Brinker playground. It will be a fun evening!
Our entire Board is looking forward to seeing all of you soon!
Letter from our Principal: Barbara Lange
Dear Brinker Families,
I hope that you all have had a most wonderful summer! A new school year just never gets old for me, even after 30+ years in education. I love seeing the new faces, the returning faces, and to feel the energy of the staff and students on campus. We will have some new staff this year, and I am so excited to be among very talented staff members who love what they do each day. This will be a great year!
Please be sure to join the PTA. This connection will enable you to really feel a part of the Brinker culture. We have numerous ways for you to get involved – as little or as much as your time allows! Our PTA President this year is Julie Pascuzzi, who is a mom of a third grader and a sixth grader. Julie and the amazing PTA Board have already been working and planning for a fun year for our students at Brinker. Dads have a place too – our Watchdogs program where the Dads can spend time at school and get to experience elementary world! Our PTA Chairperson for Watchdogs this year is Ed Chao, who will be working along with our Assistant Principal, Sara Stewart, to coordinate this program. There will be a kick off event in September – more info to come!
You will receive your child’s teacher’s name via parent portal on Wednesday, August 19, which also is our Back to Brinker Day in the gym between 5:00 and 7:00 pm. You can purchase spirit wear, find out about all the many activities you can be a part of this year, and Kona Ice will be here so that you can have a cool refreshment! Be sure to come and also make some new friends!
I look forward to seeing you at Meet the Teacher on Friday, August 21 from 7:30-8:30 am. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

2015-2016 PTA MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
PTA membership is now open for the 2015-2016 school year. For those new to our school, every dollar the PTA takes in goes directly back to programs for all students at the school. Just a few of the programs paid for and organized by the PTA include:
Author and Storyteller Visits
High Tech High Touch Science Visits
Heroes in History Visits
Chess Enrichment Program
Young Rembrandts Art Enrichment Program
Fall and Spring Art Weeks
Cultural Diversity Day
2x2 and Bluebonnet Reading List Parties
Fall Family Picnic
Brinker Bash - Year End Student Party
Class Field Trips
Being a member of the PTA does not require that you volunteer your time. But your membership and support of the PTA ensures that we have the funds to continue providing excellent programs that supplement the education teachers provide to our students.
To become a member of the PTA for the 2015-2016 school year, log in to the Membership Toolkit, go to the Account Login page and select the "2015-2016 PTA Membership Dues" form. All PTA members will receive a complimentary copy of the 2015-2016 Brinker PTA Membership Directory. Only PTA members can receive a copy of this directory. Please contact Hollie Carlson at email@example.com with questions.
(Benefactors for Educators, Academic Resources and Students)
Each year, your PTA raises money to support programs that directly impact each and every student at Brinker Elementary. Brinker PTA spends almost $20,000 annually on Arts in Education curriculum & Academic Enrichment Programs, such as author visits, field trips, and professional scientists conducting in-classroom experiments. Donations can be made in any amount. Families who donate $100 to $249 will receive a Brinker yard sign and families donating more than $250 will receive a yard sign and the PTA will donate 5 books to the library in that family's name. (A picture of last year's yard sign is above.)
Donations can be made on the PTA Membership Toolkit by logging in, going to the Orders/Volunteering tab and selecting the 2015-2016 BEARS Campaign form.
Our goal this year is to get support for our PTA programs from 100% of our Brinker families. No donation is too small. What does the 100% campaign mean?
*100% participation from Brinker families
*100% of your money goes straight to Brinker PTA, therefore straight to your child
*100% tax deductible donations
*100% less time consuming
*100% fewer calories consumed than cookie dough
*100% fewer items cluttering your household
Log on to the Brinker PTA Membership Toolkit and donate now! Donations can be made on the BEARS Campaign order form. For cash and check donations, please contact Jill Levy at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Let's get that 100%!
More than 1,000 companies in the U.S. have matching gift programs. This means if the employee makes a donation to a charitable 501(c)(3) organization, such as Brinker PTA, the employer will match that donation. This can dramatically increase the impact your gift makes for the Brinker PTA.
Check with your company’s Human Resources Department to see if your company offers this benefit. For more information on matching gifts, visit our BEARS Campaign page.
If you are looking for ways to entertain your Bear during these last weeks of summer, reading books from the Texas 2x2 Reading List and Texas Bluebonnet Awards are a great way to keep students engaged and get ahead for he next school year. These award books can be found at our local public libraries. Click on the links below for each reading list:
Reflections is a National PTA sponsored arts recognition program that encourages artistic expression. The Reflections theme for 2015 – 2016 is “Let Your Imagination Fly." Use your imagination to create a film, song, artwork, photograph, poem, short story or dance routine. You may enter as many times as you like in as many categories as you choose. Each submission must be accompanied by an official entry form. Entries will be due Friday, November 6th.
Have fun and make sure all entries relate to the theme: “Let Your Imagination Fly.”
We are delighted to bring you another fun year of weekly performances geared toward helping students build on their passion for music and performing arts!
Students with at least two or more years of formal training in music can sign up to play their favorite pieces live on Tuesdays at the start of the school day so the Brinker community can share in our children’s amazing talents.
You can reserve a date for your budding musician on Membership Toolkit beginning August 10. To sign up, log into the PTA Membership Toolkit, go to the Orders/Volunteering tab and look for the Tuesday Tunes sign up form. Due to high demand, each student may perform only one time during the school year.
The Brinker PTA will once again be sponsoring an after-school chess enrichment program. Learn more about the program at Back to Brinker. Registration will be available once school starts on the PTA Membership Toolkit.
We are excited to have Young Rembrandts again offer their after school art classes at Brinker beginning this September. Please stop by the Young Rembrandts table at Back to Brinker to learn more about this program. Watch for updates in upcoming Bear Facts newsletters!
