"If you have only one smile in you, give it to the people you love" - Maya Angelou
Happy Valentine's Day!! I continue to be surprised at how quickly this year is flying by. In addition, I continue to be amazed by all the many wonderful volunteers we have at our school. Brinker would not be a "smooth, running machine" without the many people that keep it going.
Thank you to the dads and their kids who participated in "Movie Night." We appreciate your patience with our logistical and technical difficulties that evening and despite all the problems, it appeared everyone had a good time.
Also, thank you to everyone who participated in the SchoolStore.com program. Again, a wonderful way to support Brinker. Another way to support Brinker is the fundraiser we have with "Marbles." You can find more information about "Marbles" further down in this newsletter. This would be a great way to treat your special valentine.
There are many activities taking place at Brinker in February. We start with Cultural Diversity Day on Friday, February 6th. If you are able to volunteer, we would really appreciate it. We have our classroom Valentine's parties on February 13th. The kids love their classroom parties!! We end the month with Book Fair, February 23-27. Family Night will be Wednesday, February 25, we hope everyone can make it to this wonderful event.

Lauren has volunteered after school at every Young Rembrandts session as the Parent Helper and volunteers during the school year for several other activities, including Field Day, the Winter Party, the Reading Buddies Program and at the Brinker Library. PTA NOMINATING COMMITTEE
Our PTA bylaws require that a Nominating Committee propose a slate of candidates for PTA officer for the 2015-16 school year. The Nominating Committee will be elected at the next PTA General Membership Meeting to be held on February 25. The Nominating Committee will review forms submitted by the general membership naming candidates and their qualifications for office. Officers to be elected include:
First VP - Communications
Second VP - Volunteers
Third VP - Ways & Means
Five (5) volunteers and two (2) alternates must serve on the Nominating Committee and volunteers must be Brinker PTA members (parents or teachers), be familiar with the principles, policies and procedures of the PTA and have some knowledge of the candidates and their qualifications.
The time commitment is usually minimal: 1-2 meetings, as determined by the committee, to review the application forms. Meetings should be help quickly to determine a slate of candidates to be published prior to the March election.
If you are interested in serving on the Nominating Committee, please attend the PTA General Membership Meeting at 6:30 pm on February 25. Self-nominations from the floor are permitted. Nominations for the committee will be made from the floor followed by a ballot vote.
We also need 3 to 5 Tellers who will count ballots and record the vote. If you would like to volunteer as a Teller or if you have questions about the Nominating Committee, please contact Alison Grzyb at email@example.com at anytime prior to the February 25 meeting.

Grand Prize Winners (advancing to and representing Brinker at the Regional Science Fair)
Fun things are in store for Brinker this semester! Last month we shared ideas about how to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, and this month we are going to put that into action. For Valentine’s Day, we will be collecting used sheets and towels to donate to animal shelters in the area. Animal shelters use these items for everything from cleanup to bedding for the animals. The sheets and towels do not need to be in good condition, but they must be clean. We will also be accepting dog food that has not expired and gently used dog toys. This collection will take place from February 9 - 13. If you plan to help at the Valentine’s Day parties, please feel free to bring items with you then.
We are also looking into creating a garden at Brinker. Gardens benefit the environment in so many ways. We have a location in mind on Brinker’s campus, but need help with supplies, labor, and expertise. It could be a great asset for our teachers as well for IC units involving plants, the water cycle, and many other topics. If you are interested in helping with this project, please contact the Brinker Environmental Chairs, Jennifer Blice and Nanditha Zuckerman, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Students Had Fun Learning With Hightouch Hightech Scientists
In January, our Kindergarten through 4th grade students had the opportunity to experience fun and hands-on experiments in their classrooms with the Hightouch Hightech scientists. Each grade level had a different program, including The Five Senses, Geology, Weather, the Electromagnetic Spectrum and Buoyancy.
